Concesionaria Vuela Compaa de Aviación, S.A.P.I. de C.V., a low-cost Mexican airline, operates out of bases in Tijuana, Guadalajara, and Mexico City. Regularly scheduled flights are run by the airline throughout the Americas, primarily to and from Mexico and the US. The airline has a vast route network that includes more than 65 sites. It currently serves as Mexico's main domestic airport and is the second-most popular airline worldwide, after Aeromexico (international and domestic). The airline's three target cities are Cancun International Airport (CUN), León Airport (LEN), and Monterrey International Airport (MTW).
Volaris Airlines was founded in 2004 with the goal of operating as an ultra-low-cost carrier that would provide Mexicans with better access to routes. Before it started flying, the airline was known as Vuela Airlines. It made its first trip from Toluca to Tijuana in 2006. Later that year, the carrier acquired $40 million in capital, which it combined with a $130 million investment to use to grow into other regions of the Americas and add more routes within Mexico.
Volaris is currently one of the most prominent airlines in Mexico, operating more than 200 flights each day with one of the country's youngest fleets.
The airline's first subsidiary, Volaris Costa Rica, started operating in 2016 and offers flights from the San Jose airport to several cities in Central and North America. Volaris El Salvador was set to launch in 2018, and service started in September of that year.
The airline unveiled the VClub, a frequent traveller programme, in June 2012.
